My brother, Bill Bean Jr., was shot and killed in 1999, by a parolee at large in Sacramento. This has obviously impacted my life and that of our family. Unfortunately, it seems far too common now to see a news story about another murder of a Peace Officer. I am forced to relive Bill’s murder with every story I see or read where a Peace Officer has been shot and/or killed. With every homicide, I think of the lasting pain those families will feel for years to come. Knowing these emotions personally will allow me to better support victims of crime and walk with them through their pain and their quest for justice.
